- Javanese traditional shadow puppet or wayang kulit is masterpiece of art which deserved for special attention, seeing that nowadays more and more people starts losing interest in appreciating wayang kulit. Not only by attending its live show, people can also get the excitement of wayang in other media such as radio. Pandowo FM is one among radio stations in Tulungagung which capable to preserve this ancient art. Not just via onair wayang showsprograms, Pandowo FM radio stations also organize offair live shows. Pandowo FM often acts as sponsor of wayang kulit show held by local government. Working from those phenomenons, researcher had interest in studying how is society’s opinion about the role of Pandowo FM radio station in preserving wayang kulit. This is quantitativedescriptivetype research, and using survey approach. Population in this research is society member of village Wonorejo RT 01 RW 01, subdistrict of Sumbergempol, district of Tulungagung with total resident of 158 peoples. Acquired from presurvey, total of respondent are 32 respondents thus sampling method using total sample because the population is below 100. Data is gathered by filling questioner and documentation, then mean formula is used to analyze that datum and to clarify the result, percent table and distribution table are used. From the result of this research we can conclude that the role of Pandowo FM radio station in preserving wayang kulit according to opinion of society is very central and have huge role in preserving wayang kulit. The result is proved by total respondent’s answer about indicators such as onair and offair wayang shows, presentation of wayang to general society through radio programs, the presence of wayang kulit show facility, usage of wayang kulit music arrangement in general programs, averaged using mean formula yields 2, 67 which mean very common answer.
