- There are many English for young learner teachers who do not hold an English background. Thus the purposes of the study was to find out the obstacles of English teaching learning process done by non English education background teacher in SDN Poncokusumo I Malang. The research design of this study was descriptive research. The subject of this research was the non English education background teacher who taught 4th up to 6th classes. Meanwhile, the instruments of this study were observation and interview to collect the data. The researcher found many obstacles of non English education background teacher in SDN Poncokusumo I Malang. First, the teacher education background was not English department. Second, the teacher had some limitation to teach four skills of English. Third, the teacher has no text book as guidance; she only used the worksheet as guidance in the English teaching process. Fourth, the teacher did not know well about media of English teaching. Fifth, the teacher just fulfilled the target of the school, so that the teacher did not know about the English student’s ability. Sixth, the teacher rarely used English as communication in the class. Based on this research it can be concluded that teacher had some limitation in teaching English duo to her lacking skills and knowledge in English teaching. For the suggestion, the non English background teachers have to join the appropriate a qualified English course to be active participants, especially for EFL teachers in the elementary school. Besides, the teachers should have creativity to create media and they should supplement the existing textbooks.
