  • This research was aimed at analyzing teaching techniques of reading comprehension for the second year students at SMP Muhammadiyah 08 Batu. This study tried to find the techniques of teaching reading, the implementation, and student’s preferable of the technique. This research was descriptive qualitative in which the researcher tried to identify the techniques of teaching reading, the implementation, and also the student’s preferable toward the technique in teaching-learning reading comprehension. The subject of this research was one English teacher who taught second grade of junior high school and the students in class B. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and questionnaires. The observation was to know the techniques used by the teacher and supported by interview. In this case the researcher’s position was non participant observer. Interview was used to obtain the data concerning in implementation of the techniques. In this interview the researcher used unstructured form. And questionnaire was to know about the student’s preferable technique of teaching reading comprehension. In this questionnaire the researcher used closed ended questionnaire. The findings of this study showed that the teacher used Savor, DRTA and Oral reading technique as technique of teaching reading comprehension. In implementing the techniques the teacher applied her techniques in three stages. They were: pre-teaching reading activities, whilst-teaching-reading activity, and post-teaching –reading activity. Then, student’s preferable technique was oral reading technique. It was shown from the results of questionnaire and data analysis that 21 students or 51.21% from 41students who were very interested in it, for DRTA there were 12 students or 29.26% who were very interested and Savor only 8 students or 19.51% who were very interested in it.
