  • Assertive behavior is not an innate behavior or a character who happens to appear, but most learned individuals in the place he develop themselves. Reality shows, assertive behavior influenced by the culture and environment in which an individual socialize. Communication will take place more effective if all parties to behave assertively in the activities of daily living. Madurese ethnic community known as one of indigenous ethnic groups that have and habits are hard, tend to speak as it is, stiff and sensitive. Javanese ethnic communities have a lifestyle that prefers etiquette respect for and maintenance of harmonious social appearances. This study aims to determine differences in students' assertive behavior UMM originating from Central Java and Madura. Assertive individual characteristics between others: first, easy to communicate directly and not made up. Second, more confident expressing desires, feelings and thoughts verbally and non-verbal. Third, Have the high spirits achieve hope, his vision lives on. Fourth, aware of shortcomings and limitations as human beings, but still persistent attempt so that human dignity as fixed assets. The method used in this research is quantitative comparative method, The independent variable was the student of Central Java and Madura and Variables binding of assertive behavior. Using purposive sampling technique This study randomly drawn as many as 72 people, consisting of 40 students Madura and 32 students of Central Java Force 2005. Methods of analysis data used is the T-test. Result showed a significant relationship between assertive behavior students and Madura Central Java. There is a difference that assertive behavior significant (t = 2.349: 0.050 significantly less) in which students from Madura have a better assertive behavior (X Madura 40.67) than students from Central Java (Central Java X 36.41).
