  • Mathematics has given birth to the assumption that mathematics is a difficult subject. Similarly, according to students of class VIII-E at SMPN 11 Malang that mathematics is a very scary subject because of the difficulty of the material they are learning. Difficulties experienced by students when given questions by the teacher caused errors when answering these questions. Based on these explanations, the purpose of this study is to describe how the mathematics learning mistakes of students of class VIII-E of SMPN 11 Malang. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The subjects of Grade VIII-E students of SMPN 11 Malang total 33 students, six of them will be selected, namely two students with the ability to categorize ability, two students with a moderate ability, and two students with a low ability category. The results of research conducted obtained student learning errors as follows: 1) students can not distinguish between functions and non-functions; 2) students don't make arrow diagrams; 3) students do not write the name of the set; 4) students don't make tables; 5) students do not write the name of the function; 6) students can not give examples according to the command matter; 7) Students cannot write consecutive pairs, and 8) Students determine the location of an inverted set of "x-axis = domain and y-axis = codomain".
