- This study examines the customary behavior of the Minangkabau people in the Anak Rantau novel by Ahmad Fuadi with the study of literary anthropology. Literary anthropology is a discipline that examines the relevance of literary works to culture. The study of Anak Rantau novel by Ahmad Fuadi with a literary anthropological approach aims to describe and explain the social behavior of the Minangkabau people in the Anak Rantau novel by Ahmad Fuadi and the customary behavior of the Minangkabau people in Anak Rantau novel by Ahmad Fuadi. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data source in this study is the novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi, taking into account data excerpts, sentences and story units contained in the novel. This research used a literary anthropology approach to describe the social behavior and customs of the Minangkabau people in the novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuad. The data collection techniques used in this study are non-interactive techniques by reading novels and analyzing documents. Data analysis techniques used in this study is content analysis of three elements of activity, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results of this study conclude; a) the social behavior of the Minangkabau community in the novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi can be seen through 3 aspects, including (1) a safe and peaceful environment, in the form of a safe, peaceful, prosperous, cheerful, and blessed community life, (2) self-esteem, in the form maintaining self-esteem, maintaining self-esteem, and strong ambitions, and (3) nan sakato society, in the form of saiyo sakato (deliberation for consensus), sahino samalu (close relationship), anggo tango (orderly and disciplined society), and sajinjiang sapikue (prioritizing mutual cooperation). The customary behavior of the Minangkabau people in the novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi can be seen through 4 aspects, including (1) the culture of living in surau, in the form of staying overnight in the surau to study religion, customs and silat, (2) a degree, in the form of giving a title and assignment from people who bear the title of datuk, (3) marriage law, in the form of marriage which is recommended by custom and prohibition to marry one tribe, (4) wander culture, in the form of wandering to free themselves and to achieve success or glory.
