- The development of technology that continues to advance resulting in crime rates continue to grow not only directly but indirectly. One of them is online based fraud, in which the provisions relating to this crime have been specifically regulated in Act Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendment to Act Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information. This research is more focused on the formulation of the problems associated with the factors that cause online-based fraud and how to prevent the police. This study uses a sociological approach with primary data source collection techniques obtained during research and secondary data sources obtained from journals and literature studies. Based on the results of research in Malang City Police, the number of online-based frauds that occur today can be said to be quite a lot due to several factors including the opportunity to commit a crime, economic factors, the role of victims to environmental factors. Countermeasures made by the police are preventive and repressive. The conclusions and suggestions obtained from this paper are the need to increase awareness and insight that occur around the community in order to mutually support the efforts of the police to minimize the level of cyber crime. the role of victims to environmental factors.
