- This research discusses the implementation of local government in managing regional tourism. As it is known that tourism is one of the main sector to increase regional income. Tourism also has a very important role in regional development. South Buru Island is a new district rise in 2008 and has a lot of maritime tourism potential that can attract tourists. Therefore, the local government implements policies to manage the tourism system. This research focus on how the local government implements policies in term of tourism management in South Buru, and what are the obstacles in implementing tourism management policies. In addition, this study used qualitative methods with descriptive analysis. This study used the theory of policy implementation by Edward III. Departement of Tourism and Culture aimed to attract local, domestic and international tourists and they focuses on promoting tourism destinations in South Buru Island. The results of this study indicate that the Department of Tourism and Culture in South Buru successed in increasing number of visitors to the Island. Whether the domestic, national and even the internasional tourists. This is supported by good bureaucracy in carrying out policies, good internal communication and also supported by the quality human resources who can work under pressure so that the tourism management can be implemented well.
