- Indonesian people at this time still rely on Refined Fuel Oil (RFO). The fuels which are used by the Indonesian people today such as oil, gas, and coal are included in the group of fossil energy that cannot be renewed. In a certain period, this energy source will be exhausted and cannot be renewed again. Therefore, the utilization of sawdust waste and coffee grounds that are processed into wood pellet can be used as a step to develop alternative fuel, especially for Indonesia people.The process of making wood pellet began by equalizing the size of the sengon sawdust by using a chopper machine with a filter of 20 mesh and coffee grounds weresifted with a 60 mesh sieve.Then the main ingredients were carbonized by combining for 50-60 minutes.After carbonization, the main ingredients were mixed with the treatment of sengon wood powder and coffee grounds 20% - 80%, 40% - 60%, 60% - 40%, 80% - 20%, and 100%, then sengon sawdust was formed with a wood pellet forming machine. The quality testing and wood pellet quality were done by testing on the heating value, flaking, combustion rate, ash level, and water level. The best results of wood pellet with a mixture of sengon sawdust and coffee grounds were found in the treatment of 20% -80% with a mixture of 200gr sengon sawdust, 800gr coffee grounds, 300gr starch which were the results of the calorific, ash level, and water level had met the quality standards but at density values only met the quality standards set by the countries of Sweden (SS 18 71 20) and America (PFI).
