  • Indonesia is a country that is famous for its abundant natural resources, one of which is a medicinal plant. Increased bacterial resistance to some antibiotics provides great opportunities in exploiting the potential of medicinal plants. The purpose of this study was to determine how the antibacterial effectiveness of patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) Leaf extracts against Escherichia coli inhibitory zones and the application of research results as a source of learning biology. This type of true experimental research uses the post test only control group design with a quantitative approach using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). This study used 6 treatments and 4 replications, namely control (+) tetracycline, control (-) aquades, concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. The parameters used are the results of the diameter of the inhibition zone (clear zone) around the paper disk. The data analysis technique used is Kruskal-Wallis with a significance level of 5% and further Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed the optimum concentration of patchouli leaf extract in inhibiting Escherichia coli bacteria at 50% extract concentration, with inhibition zone diameter of 1.85 mm. This research can be used as a source of biology learning for high school grade X in KD 4.7.
