- Commodification is happened because of capitalization which involves to all human's field. Commodification influences human to do all commercialization process for being commercialized. In addition, commodification characteristic is to change every things to be commodity or things to be commercialized. This research was conducted at Sunan Bonang's market Tuban district, East Java. Descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research; the research process and understanding was based on the social phenomenon observation at Sunan Bonang’s Tomb Market. Moreover, the data were collected by conducting observation, interview, and documentation. The informant were chosen with purposive technique; based on the fix characteristics' list before field execution. Furthermore, the commodification concept of Karl Marx's theory was implemented in analyzing the data. The finding claimed that economic motive was the main reason of local society at Tuban Sunan Bonang’s Tomb to utilize and commercialize the tomb existence. Life’s demands required the society to have a trick for maintaining their life. One of the ways was by utilizing the tomb’s area as a place of seeking sustenance. By the tomb’s existence, the local society could sell various kinds of merchandises, such as Tuban’s souvenirs, clothes, provided public toilet, hostelry, and parking services. Beside economic motive, the existence of commodification also caused by the tourism places development at Tuban district.
