- A language used by a group of people in a community or certain profession often uses special terms of language. A community prefers to use a particular variety of language because they want to send the information more easily. The Andalus FM radio community has the particular language variety. It shows when they are communicating or interacting with each other. They often use the special terms of language, which is understood by certain people only. This study is intended to investigate the registers used by Andalus FM radio community, the meanings of those registers, and the occasions when registers used. In this study, the writer used a descriptive qualitative research design. To collect the data, the writer used observation and interview. In the observation, the writer observed their activities in a studio room especially their conversation. In the interview, the writer asked to the informants about the data found in the observation. Besides, the writer used tape recorder to record the interview between the writer and the informants especially to get the information about the meanings of registers and the occasions when registers used by Andalus FM radio community in Malang. To analyze the data, the writer used several steps. They are as follows: 1) arranging the data based on the observation and interview in the form of table, 2) analyzing the registers based on their categories, 3) giving the Indonesia and English meanings of registers found, 4) deciding the occasion in which the population used the register, and 5) drawing conclusion based on the results of data analysis. The result of this study showed that there were 71 registers found in Andalus FM radio community in Malang. All of the registers used by Andalus were classified into formal register. The registers were used in such activities. First, the registers used when they are working. Second, the registers used when they are meeting. Third, they used the registers when they got an order and talked with the clients. And fourth, they used the registers in a break time while the entire members talked about their work evaluation.
