  • Sugarcane plant (Saccharum officinarum) is the main raw material for the manufacture of sugar. Development of sugar production can improve the economic value, and also the provision of employment for the community. In sugarcane plants there are some pests that can damage the sugar cane, one of which is a sugarcane stem borer. It can reduce the quality and quantity of sugarcane, causing a considerable loss. To overcome such a thing, there is a need for some treatment to reduce pest attack, for example by spraying vegetable pesticide the tobacco liquid smoke. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of tobacco liquid smoke to attack on sugar cane and sugar cane crops. Research was conducted in the Balai Penelitian Tanaman Pemanis dan Serat (BALITTAS), over a period of approximately 4 months. This research was implemented using Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) with 7 treatment and frequent 3 times. The treatment used is the tobacco liquid smoke with concentrations of 10 cc, 8 cc, 6 cc, 4 cc, 2 cc, Diafentiuron (Pegasus) 2 cc as negative control, and without spraying liquid smoke tobacco as positive control. Sugarcane crops sprayed a week before observations were carried out. After that spraying done once every 2 weeks. Observations were carried out by taking 5 clump at each replay. The observed variables include the number of attacks, the number of infected segments, crop height, number of saplings and sugar levels. The results showed that the liquid smoke of tobacco showed no effect to inhibition of the stem borer of sugarcane and also to the height of the plant. Meanwhile, the growth of saplings and sugar levels showed real influence.
