- This study aims to see how the influence of electrode type and current strength on the corrosion rate of ST 42 Steel welding results. The welding used is the SMAW method carried out on ST 42 Steel with variations of electrodes E6013, E7016 and strong currents 80, 90, 110, 120 then performed corrosion testing with seawater media with a period of 60 days. Corrosion rate calculation is done based on weight loss method. From the results of the research with the variation of the Electrode and the current strength obtained the lowest value using the E6013 Electrode with a value of 1.1842Mpy with a current of 120A, while the E7016 Electrode the lowest value of 1.3452Mpy with a current of 80A. So from this study the selection of the two electrodes that are appropriate for welding ST 42 steel is the E6013 electrode, because the higher the current the lower the corrosion rate while the E7016 electrode the higher the current the higher the corrosion rate.
