- Corrosion was almost largely detrimental to living things on this earth. Sandblasting was one way to prevented and inhibit the rate of corrosion in a metal. This study aimed to determined the effect of sandblasting pressure there were variations on the surface roughness of SS400 steel and the effect of variations in immersion time on the corrosion rate of SS400 steels that have gone through the sandblasting process. This study used variations of sandblasting pressure 4 bar, 5 bar, 6 bar, 7 bar and 8 bar with the SS 400 steel test specimens, with sprayed time for 60 seconds, the spray angle used is 90 °, with noozle distance to the test specimen when spraying that was 15 cm, and the size of iron sand as an abrasive material that was 10 mesh. Then the test specimens were immersed with variations of 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 days on 5% sulfuric acid. The results of this study that was by used variations of sandblasting pressure 4 bars, 5 bars, 6 bars, 7 bars and 8 bars effectively reduced the corrosion rate that occurs in SS400 steel specimens. Where the highest corrosion rate occurs at pressure without sandblasting with surface roughness (Ra) 0.170 μm for 3 days immersion time of 6.9690 mmpy, while the lowest corrosion rate at 6 bar with surface roughness (Ra) 1,752 μm with 15 days immersion time of 0,9757 mmpy.
