  • Translation is a process by which a source language (SL) is translated into a target language (TL) to ensure that the messages seem to be approximately similar. In translating from SL to TL, translation shifts are frequently found. Shifts are deviation that appear during the process of translation. Moreover, this study aimed to investigate the category shifts found in English-Indonesian versions of Maher Zain’s religious songs and the most dominant category shift used in both translation versions. This study was conducted by using qualitative research design in the term of document analysis. The instrument to collect the data was documents. The documents consisted of the translation versions of I Love You So, For the Rest of My Life, Guide Me All the Way, and Peace Be upon You. The results have revealed that all of the Maher Zain’s religious songs contained all kinds of category shifts, covering structure, class, unit, and intra-system shifts. Furthermore, I Love You So possessed 33 shifts, For the Rest of My Life possessed 32 shifts, Guide Me All the Way possessed 22 shifts, and Peace Be upon You possessed 28 shifts. Therefore, I Love You So clearly contained the most-shifted lyrics compared to others. In the terms of dominance, unit shifts dominated the shifts that occurred in songs translations.
