  • Welding is an inseparable part of increasing industrial development, because welding has a major role in engineering and improving production. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a thermomechanical method by utilizing thermal energy in the friction process between the tool and the welded workpiece. Friction stir welding (FSW) has the advantage of low production costs and good quality of the joints. This study aims to determine the results of the distortion and mechanical properties of the material through tensile and hardness testing of Friction Stir Welding with variations in feed rate. The material used is Alumnium type 5083 with a thickness of 4mm. The welding process uses a 1320RPM tool rotation, with feed rates of 20 mm / min, 40 mm / min, and 60 mm / min. Tests carried out are the distortion test, tensile test, and hardness test. Tests carried out are the distortion test, tensile test, and hardness test. The results showed a variation of feed rate of 60 mm / min showed the best distortion value. For tensile testing the feed rate variation of 20 mm / min has a good tensile strength value of 209,393 MPa. for testing the hardness of the feed rate variation 40 mm / min the highest average value is located in the weld metal area with a value of 41.64 kg / mm2, the second highest is located in the HAZ region with a value of 39.19 kg / mm2, and the last highest lies in the area base metal with a value of 35.66 kg / mm2.
