- ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to reveal how student-teachers introduced intercultural awareness and the challenges experienced in introducing intercultural awareness to the second-grade students of the EYL program at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The research subjects of this study were two student-teachers second-grade in EYL program at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research used a qualitative research design. The instruments of this research are observing how student-teachers introduced intercultural awareness, interviewing the student- teachers challenges experienced in introducing intercultural awareness, and collecting the data of lesson plans. Based on the data analysis, it is concluded the first student-teacher introduced intercultural awareness using a flashcard. In the activity, the student- teacher explains the comparison between Indonesian and American food. The second student-teacher uses a video in identifying pet’s sound between Indonesia and America. In this case, the student-teacher shows a video about different pet’s sound in Indonesia and America. Besides, the student-teachers have similar challenges experienced. Those are included that the students have short attention, the students have difficulty in understanding the different vocabularies between Bahasa Indonesia and English, and the students are passive in explaining the materials.
