- This thesis attempts to analyze the tradition of Islamic boarding school education in the Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in the middle of the modernization of the education system. This research was conducted using a qualitative case study approach. data obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were residents of the Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in Malang using key information from caregivers and religious teachers. To analyze the dynamics of Islamic boarding school education in Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School researchers used interaction analysis. There are two factors that influence the implementation of education in Islamic boarding schools in the Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in Malang, namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include lack and increase in achievement of students. As for external factors include the rapid development of the formal education system and the development of culture and educational needs of the community that are appropriate in the times. The researcher found that there was a change in the education system in Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in Malang from the traditional education system to a modern education system in institutional, building, infrastructure, education methods and curriculum aspects. However, Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in Malang still retains its characteristics as an Islamic educational institution that teaches Islamic values, this is indicated by teaching students about the books of the Tuhid, Tafsir, Hadith, ushul fiqh and Arabic. The changes in the education system that took place at the Muhammadiyah Al-Munawwaroh Islamic Boarding School in Malang aimed to improve the quality of Islamic religious education in accordance with the times and the needs of the community in education.
