  • Speaking is the most important skill of all the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) because someone who can speak that language is called as the speaker of that language. However, speaking skill is not easy as the expectation. Thus, this research is intended to describe the learning strategies that the students used to solve their speaking problems. This research aims to know the problems in applying the learning strategies, the learning strategies that the students used in learning English speaking, and the solution of the problems in applying the learning strategies. This research was a descriptive qualitative research which aimed to describe the data in the form of words rather than numbers. The instruments that used were open-ended questionnaire and interview guide to obtain the data of this research. Structured interview was used in this research to gather the data of the students. The researcher was conducted the research in MTs. Negeri 6 Pasuruan especially the 9th grade students of 9D class academic year 2019/2020. The results of the research showed that the 9D students of MTs. Negeri 6 Pasuruan were used all of the learning strategies, namely (1) Cognitive Strategies (2) Metacognitive Strategies (3) Socio-affective Strategies. The findings showed that the students also used a combination of those three learning strategies such as Cognitive Strategies and Metacognitive Strategies, Metacognitive Strategies and Socio-affective Strategies, Socio-affective Strategies and Cognitive Strategies, and so on. In sum up, all of the students were used the learning strategies unconsciously.
