  • Rupiah’s money design in Indonesia is also used as a mean to convey a message about Indonesia’s identity which showing mostly an iconic or panoramic picture of Indonesia or a portrait of national hero. In 2016 however, the writer found that the public are unusually intrigue to find the connotation upon the new rupiah’s design. Which also pique the writer’s curiousity to find out what exactly is the public think about the banknotes design, mainly on the people who has interest on the field, the Ngalam Numismatik community. The purpose of this study is to find out the community’s opinion about the connotation of the 2016 heroes series banknotes. This study is a qualitative research with interpretive descriptive approach on reception analysis by applying the theory of decoding. The subject of this study are 16 (sixteen) people. The data collection is done by interviewing and documentating, and then analized using the interactive model of data analysis by Miles and Huberman. The validity was tested by triangulation method. The study found that there are different connotation about the 2016 Rupiah’s banknotes design among each member of the Ngalam Numismatik community. Among them are how the image on the 2016 national heroes series banknotes represent the national ideology, a media to introduce the charismatic national heroes, or just to promote the picture of national heroes, or how it represent as the nation political interest, or how it missed on representing an appropriate national heroes.
