- Background: Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is one third of the causes of death of children under 5 years in developing countries. Family has a family function, one of which is the health function. Families with good family functions are expected to be able to prevent ARI on family members, especially toddlers. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the effect of family function on the occurrence of ARI in toddlers aged 12-59 months in the work area of Jambon Health Center, Ponorogo Regency. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. Sampling by purposive sampling, and found 91 respondents. Analyzed by Chi square and logistic regression. Results: The Chi-square test showed that there was a relationship of family function with ARI (p=0.00). The logistic regression test showed that family function affect ARI (p=0.00), with the most influential Affective Responsiveness indicator (p=0.033). Toddlers with unhealthy family functions have 6 times greater chance of getting ARI (OR=6.061), (95% CI: 2,404 – 15,279). Conclusion: Family function significantly influences the occurrence of ARI in toddlers with the most influential affective responsiveness indicator.
