  • This research was conducted to find out and examine more deeply about the motives of adolescents using pseudonym accounts such as Role Play and Cyber Accounts on Twitter. With the internet the identity of a person or group can be built in the form of a virtual world. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews, documentation, and observation. Furthermore, the data obtained were analyzed using the theory of media use motives by McQuail (1991) namely concerning information motives, the two personal identity motives, the third motive for integrity/social interaction, and finally the entertainment motive. The background that underlies the subjects creates a pseudonym account because they want their social existence to be recognized in the surrounding environment. Based on the results of the study, the researchers found that all subjects stated that using a pseudonym account did not prevent them from obtaining information about something they liked, for example Korean idols, anime and others. Then with a pseudonym account they feel more accepted even on Twitter. Interaction using a pseudonym account can also be done with many people without the need to look at their social status, can even learn the character of a person based on the posts uploaded on their account. Entertainment is usually obtained through interactions that exist between mutual Role Play and Cyber Accounts or by viewing funny content, such as memes that are spread on the Twitter timeline. From the four motives which this research resulted in other discovery, as follows the researchers found the phenomenon of subjects intentionally selling their accounts with criteria, such as can be seen from the unique usernames, big number of followers and how many tweets and from the year of the account created. Therefore based on the phenomenon that occurs researchers call it "economic motives".
