  • This study aims to determine the meaning from audience, especially from 1000 Guru Malang Community on the message of the “human life cycle” that is presented in a Coldiac’s video clip “TARA”. This research is a type of qualitative research that has the objective to find out how 1000 Guru Malang Community to decoding the messages “the human life cycle” and encoded by the reception of each research subject. Data collection techniques used in this study were interview techniques and documentation. The data in this study will be analyzed by using theory from Stuart Hall that puts the audience into three positions that is Dominant Reading, Negotiation Reading and Opposition Reading. Based on the results of this study, researchers found several findings that is the five subjects interpreting the message of the “human life cycle” not only as a phase of human growth from infancy to old age. However, stating that in life there is a sense of regret and solitude that must be experienced by all humans. Subject that tend to interpret and be in opposition reading are male and come from incomplete families. Gender, background and life experience shape the meaning each subjects to “TARA” video clip. The message that tends to be interpreted dominantly is in the message of regret and anxiety in life, message in scene “a teenager lying in a circle of fire” and message in scene “old mand figure trying to close a suitcase”. While the message that tends to be interpreted as negotiation by the subject is a message in scene “babies are placed in a basket”. The message that tends to be interpreted as opposition by the subject is the message in scene “a child who opens the head covering a teenager”. Conclusion from this research is perception can be interpreted differently by each subject that has been studied based on his life experience.
