- The issue of polygamy is not only related to the relationship between husband and wife, what is more important is how children can still develop their potential in maturity and independence. In fact in general, not all children in polygamous families have the access to the rights or facilities they should have got. This is mainly caused by the quality of relations and communication which sharply dropped after polygamy. Communication is needed to establish understanding, openness and mutual trust in the family, if it does not go according to the roles and functions of each one of the family members, it will most likely create difficulties or noise in communicating with each other that will lead to conflict. Therefore, the focus of this research is to describe the dominant factors that hinder communication in polygamous families that caused the occurrence of conflicts. Also on how to manage conflicts between children and parents. This research is done using qualitative method with descriptive type. And uses interviews and observations as data collection techniques. The main concept used on this research is by Kenneth W. Thomas and Ralph H. Kilmann who argued that the taxonomy of conflict management styles is based on cooperation and assertiveness. Cooperation is an effort to please other people when facing conflict. While assertiveness is an attempt by someone to make themselves satisfied while dealing with conflict. In accordance with those two styles, the types of conflict management are Competition, Collaboration, Compromise, Avoidance and Accommodating. The results showed that the dominant factor that inhibits communication in polygamy families is the lack of openness in communication. And it is evident that the three pairs of children and parents of Polygamy have implemented conflict management in regard to Thomas and Khilman's concept. According to researchers, the most beneficial types are collaboration and compromise. Where both conflict managements are mutually beneficial to both parties. The collaboration type allows both parties feeling fully satisfied with the given alternative solution. While the compromise is done by finding middle ground for the most possible alternative solution. The interesting thing discovered in this research is the mubadalah perspectives happened between the children and their parents.
