- This research is about Malay ethnic voter interpretation to political message candidates in the Pekanbaru regional election, 2017. The Research problems on different interpretations of political messages between candidates and voters. The theory and method of analysis used gadamer hermeneutics. The result, according to ethnic Malay voters to political message candidates contains two parts the certainty of self-identity and political promises. The certainty of self-identity includes harmonious candidates, qualified, and trustworthy. Then candidate's political promises includes development be activa, qualified, sustainable, equally as desired by the community. Establish to quality community by equitable development, competitive, religious and using Malay culture. Establish to professional government bureaucracy, harmonious, clean, religious and using culture. Conclusion, the Malay ethnic voters make choice to a candidate for regional head based on their interests and traditions, and to regard Candidate's history includes social status and social activities.
