- Background: Exposure of lead acetate causes testicular atrophy marked by decreased testicular weight and diameter, and also number of seminiferous tubules. Phyllanthus niruri contain antioxidant compounds, tannin, vitamin C, phenolic, terpen, flavonoid and lignan which expected to attenuate testicular atrophy by inhibiting oxidative stress due to accumulation of free radicals caused by lead. Objective: To determine meniran effect in testicular atrophy of male white rat induced by lead. Method: True Experiment with post-test only control group design. 16 rats were divided into 4 groups, K+ induced by lead 0,5 mg/grBW/day and P1; P2; P3 induced by lead and meniran 0,1, 0,2, and 0,4mg/grBW/day. The testicular weight was measured with calipers, testicular diameter with digital scales, and seminiferous tubules were observed with a microscope at 40x magnification. The data were analyzed using MANOVA, Post Hoc Tamhane, and regression linear. Results and Discussion: Results showed significant (MANOVA p=0.000) effect between meniran extract and testicular weight, diameter, and seminiferous tubules. Post hoc test results obtained a dose of 0,2 mg/grBW/day has begun to show a significant of testicular weight, diameter, and the number of seminiferous tubules. Regression test showed the effect of meniran extract in affecting mean of testicular weight, diameter, and the number of seminiferous tubules respectively at 55,5%, 78%, and 61,3%. This is due to antioxidant compounds tannin, vitamin C, phenolic, terpen, flavonoid and lignan in meniran. Conclusion: Meniran extract has an effect decreasing testicular weight and diameter and also increasing the number of seminiferous tubules in white male rats induced by lead.
