- The success of teaching learning process is greatly influenced by some components, namely teachers, students, methods, approach, strategy, technique, media and environment. Besides considering components such as method, technique, and strategy in teaching learning process, the teacher should recognize the studentsÂ’ difficulties in learning in order to be able to solve the problem n teaching learning process. Thus, the teacher can assist the students to reach the goal in their learning. This study is aimed to describe the way the teacher applies the current teaching methods of speaking skill in teaching learning process, identify the students difficulties that appear in learning speaking when the teacher applies current teaching methods, and investigate the way the teacher overcomes the students difficulties. This study uses survey research because this study describes the application of teaching method, students difficulties and teachers way to overcome the students difficulties at MTS Muhammadiyah 1 Malang in 2013/2014 academic year. This study uses interview list, questionnaire item, and observation field note as research instruments. The result of this study shows that the teacher applies the direct method, silent way, communicative language teaching, audio lingual method, and desuggestopedia. However, in the observation, the writer found that the teacher only implemented three methods instead of all the findings above. These were desuggestopedia, communicative language teaching and silent way. The students had difficulties when they were asked to have a conversation, therefore, the teacher overcomes it by giving them examples of conversation. The students also had difficulties when the teacher help them through gestures or other media, therefore, the teacher overcomes it by repeating many times in explaining the meaning of new words. In addition, the students had difficulties in expressing their experience using English, so the teacher overcomes it by asking the students what they did not understand yet and explained it until they understood and had bravery to express in English. In conclusion, the teacher applies various teaching methods in teaching English speaking skill and she has correctly applied those methods in the classroom. However, the students felt difficult when the teacher applies those methods, especially, when she applies the methods in teaching speaking skill, and she tries to overcome those difficulties.
