- In this study with the title: Contradictions Between Ethnic Group and Conflict Resolution in Mimika District Papua with the type of phenomenological research. The Researcher choose the type of phenomenological research, because the researcher wants to examine public awareness as well as individually and groups to the attitudes and behaviors of inter ethnic groups and the community’s understanding about interpreting ethnic group war. The purpose of this study is to understand the conflict of interest among the conflicting tribes. And also to understand the conflict resolution process in Mimika District. Related to the prolonged ethnic group war in Mimika District, then how the way to handle inter ethnic group war. Related to the analysis tools, this research was conducted in Mimika Distric, Papua. Data collection used is qualitative method to the approach that has been used to achieve the research objectives, so that the researcher as a tool or research instrument to collect data or information through in-depth interviews and observations, then analyze the data that has been collected. The war between tribes in Mimika are fierce competition among the tribes, where a tribe wants to dominate another tribe, especially in terms of tribal strength. While in war there are strong tribes and weak tribes, the fight is stronger because the strong tribes want to dominate weak tribes and weak tribes want the same way as strong tribes, so that the values of customs like this continue to strengthen. Every ongoing war between tribes in Mimika Regency is not only focused on one problem but various kinds of problems, among others; funding of one percent (1%), fighting over land / land rights, women's property and infidelity, social jealousy, immersion, political power of position or position, liquor, traditional panning, and so forth. Tribal warfare in Mimika is also used by other parties for personal and group interests. On the other hand, the security forces are also involved in inter-ethnic warfare in Mimika. Then the solution is done in two ways that’s are positive law or written law and customary law or unwritten law. The conclusion drawn that according to the community inter-tribe war is natural so it can not be avoided from any problems in human life in the world including the inter-tribes at war in Mimika. And the war among tribes usually look for the evidence of whom is right and whom is wrong. While, the inter-tribal warfare is used by local governments, security forces (TNI / Polri), and PTFI for political, economic, position / position and others. Then these parties, active involvement in the war between tribes. In this connection, the community had always said that the local government failed or was late in handling inter-tribal warfare in Mimika. According to them the local government should be more assertive towards any conflict, especially among the tribal wars, the perpetrators must be arrested then prosecuted. Therefore, tribal war conflicts become large and prolonged in Mimika Papua, so by looking at the situation of inter-tribal war conflicts that there is an element of intent to allow and maintain the conflict in Mimika.
