- In the process of translation, a translator must take considerations the equivalent message or meaning in order that the translation product is understandable by TL readers. This situation makes the translator focused on the meaning rather than the form of both languages. Therefore, it affords the presence of shift in order to get a good the translation product. This research aimed at investigating the category shift occured in subtitle Alangkah Lucunya Negeri Ini movie. The method conducted in this research was descriptive qualitative. For collecting the data, the researcher implemented document as instrument. The document of this research was the subtitle of Alangkah Lucunya Negeri Ini movie. In addition, the data were analyzed descriptively by means of the theory of translation shift. Departing from findings and discussion, there were four types of category shift found in subtitle Alangkah Lucunya Negeri Ini movie, namely : structure shift, class shift, unit shift, and intra system shift.
