  • Lately in pesantren, religious values gradually change orientation. Initially pesantren only oriented to religious knowledge, but now the orientation is starting to change to general knowledge so as the values of spirituality that exist in pesantren begin to change of meaning. Desacralization of spirytuality is a new problem in the current pattern of education in pesantren. The tide of modernization in the process has entered the gap in the pesantren education system. The impact, values, culture, and behavior of the actors in it also changed. There are many changes that occur especially the problem of religious understanding of students in boarding schools. This study applies the social definition paradigm which is an explanation of the form of analysis of social action. This research is qualitative descriptive research. This study was in Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School Paiton Probolinggo. Descriptive qualitative research requires key informants who will support the researcher's data, therefore in this research needed guidance informants and informants. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation to further analyze the data using the stages as in the phenomenological approach. The results obtained a conclusion, that the desacralization of religious knowledge can be interpreted as the liberation of the indoctrination and domination of existing religious knowledge, simply a process of shifting religious knowledge into general knowledge. The process of desacralization is related to the culture in the pesantren. Changes in values are very much related to the desacralization of students' spirituality. Symptoms of desacralization of boarding school knowledge include; changes in knowledge orientation, the transformation of service values, and shifts in the meaning of independence. The decentralization of religious knowledge is a new symbol that has emerged in modern pesantren. Desacralization of religious knowledge is one form of the modernization process within the pesantren environment. The renewal of the cultural system is a necessity in the continuation of the pattern of education in the pesantren, this is also the cause of the desacralization of the spirituality of the santri in the pesantren.
