  • Technological developments in the industrial sector were progressing rapidly, one of which are the production of food and beverage processing machines that couldn’t be separated from the welding process. One of the welding that could be used was SMAW welding (Shielding Metal Arc Welding). The factor that was considered in the welding process was the adjustment of current variations. Variations in welding currents affect the quality of metal joints, namely distortion and tensile strength. Adjusting the variation of the weld current was expected to be able to get a good weld joint shape and strong weld joint strength. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the variation of the welding current of SMAW (Shielding Metal Arc Welding) on distortion and tensile strength of 304 stainless steel joints. The variation of weld current used was 60 A, 70 A and 80 A. Testing parameters were the results of welding 304 stainless steel specimens namely distortion and tensile strength of specimens. The data analysis technique used was descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were differences in the effect of SMAW (Shielding Metal Arc Welding) current variations on distortion and 304 stainless steel joint tensile strength. The best treatment of distortion parameters was 60 A current with a value of 4.93 mm which would minimize distortion of welding specimens. The best treatment of tensile test parameters was the current strength of 70 A with a value of 575,196 Mpa, the highest point was the use of good current strong variations
