Daftar Isi:
- Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of "L glutamate acid" which is often used as a flavor enhancer and scent. Excessive consumption of MSG will cause a disruption to the reproductive system. MSG to one quality of spermatozoa, namely the concentration of spermatozoa. This research aims to check the influence of MSG against the concentration of spermatozoa in the white rat (Rattus norvegicus) which as been performed in the Chemistry and Biomedicine laboratory of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. This research was carried out between November 2018 and January 2019. This study used a Randomized Complete Design, which consisted of 6 treatments i.e negative control, positive control of pure MSG (6 g/kgBW), MSG with the dosage 3 g/ kgBW, 4.5 g/kgBW, 6 g/kgBW and 7.5 g/kgBW respectualy. Those treatments were replicated four times. This research used 24 male rats aged 3 months with the body weight between 150 and 200 g. Variable observed namely the concentration of spermatozoa. One Way ANOVA test showed that giving MSG causes a decrease in the number of spermatozoa concentration significantly Sig. < 0.05. The decline in the number of spermatozoa concentration due to the excess in consuming MSG (primarily glutamate acid-D) this will cause the glutamic acid cannot be used in the protein synthesis process. Furthermore it becomes free radicals that damage the of testicular histology and reproductive cycles. The conclusion of this research is the higher the dose of MSG given to male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) the higher the effect in lowering the spermatozoa concentration.
