- In every process of making a country's foreign policy it cannot be separated from the influence given by the country's leaders. The policy of leaving the United States from membership of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) is influenced by Donald Trump's individual characteristics as President of the United States. This is because the policy was decided by Donald Trump through a presidential memorandum which did not involve approval from the Congress. His decision to pull the United States out of the TPPA became a controversial policy considering the United States is one of the initiating countries for the formation of the TPPA. Based on that, this research aims to figure out the reason of Donald John Trump as the leader of the country pulled the United States out of the TPPA. This research uses the theory of personality typology proposed by Margaret G. Hermann. This study found that Donald Trump has personality characteristic of high nationalism, high belief’s in one own ability to control over events, high distrust of other. Donald Trump’s personality characteristics as a leader of the country influenced his decision to pull the United States out of the TPPA.
