- Nowadays, many students think that learning English is difficult. Some of them find several alternatives to improve their English. One of the several alternatives is through English extracurricular. They use English extracurricular as a tool to improve their ability in English. By joining English extracurricular, the students will have more chances of learning English besides what they get in the classroom. These research aims are to know students’ interest in joining English extracurricular, the factors that make the students interested in joining English extracurricular and students’ perceptions after joining English extracurricular. The quantitative research design was used for this study. The samples of this study were 25 members of English extracurricular consisting of 8 students in the first grade, 12 students in the second grade, and 5 students in the third grade at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Bungah Gresik. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The questionnaire consisting of 32 close-ended questions. The result shows that the students enjoy in English extracurricular activities because they have very high individual interest in English extracurricular program. They join English extracurricular because of their internal factors, specifically their ideal/ambition. In the students’ opinion, the English extracurricular program is good. The students can develop their English skills through tasks given by English extracurricular teacher. The students state that after joining the English extracurricular program, their English skills improve and they can prepare their future career through learning English.
