  • The purpose of this study is to describe how students' critical thinking processes in solving story problems in the material of three-variable linear equations (SPLTV). The type of research used is descriptive using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using written tests and unstructured interviews. Subjects research were students of class XI-IPA in Batu Islamic High School and three subjects were selected randomly to be analyzed for answers from written tests and then interviewed. Students 1, 2, and 3 are not able to do the interpretation stage, because in writing what is known and what is asked is still wrong. Students 1, 2, and 3 are able to do the stage of analysis, where students have been able to change the story problem into a mathematical model. In the implementation phase of students 2, and 3 were able to pass it, but in contrast to students 1 who were unable to carry out the implementation phase because in working on the questions student 1 was still less critical in doing calculations. Whereas at the stage inference can only be done by students 3, while students 1, and 2 are not able to do it. Even though students 3 are able to do the inference phase, the answers at the interpretation and inference stages are out of sync.
