- Basil essential oil (Ocimum americanum L.) suspected have potential to inhibit the growth of the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum as one of the pathogenic fungi on various cultivated plants. The purpose of this study is to determine the antifungal activity of basil leaves essential oil against the growth of anthracnose Colletotrichum acutatum. This study uses a quantitative approach and the type is true experimental research. The sample uses the mushroom Colletotrichum acutatum obtained from the Balai Penelitian Tanaman Sayuran, Lembang, West Java. The sampling technique uses Simple Random Sampling, with concentrations of 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80%, the treatment of synthetic pesticides as (control +). The results showed that the essential oils of basil leaves can inhibit the growth of the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum. The highest inhibition zone diameter with a strong category is 70% concentration treatment which obtained an average of 11.60 mm and 80% 13.03 mm, while the smallest inhibition zone diameter at 40% concentration treatment is 4.62 mm. Concentration of 80% has an effective effect in inhibiting the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum that causes anthracnose, but at a concentration of 70% it can inhibit the fungus effectively. Research results can be used as a source of learning Biology.
