- ABSTRACT This study focuses on the implementation of teaching listening techniques used by the teacher. This research was conducted to find out the teaching techniques used by the teacher who taught in step two grade at Bustanul Ulum English Center. The use of teaching listening techniques play an important role in teaching listening, it can increase the student's motivation and also the student's spirit in the teaching-learning process. The research problem of this study was “How is the implementation of teaching listening techniques for the first-year students at Bustanul Ulum English Center?”. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to know the teacher’s teaching listening techniques implemented in step two grade Bustanul Ulum English Course. The research was conducted at Butanul Ulum English Center. The subject of this research was the teacher and twenty-five students in step two grade at Bustanul Ulum English Center. This study used a descriptive qualitative design to obtain information about the teaching techniques applied by the teacher. Hence, to collect the data, the researcher used classroom observation as the first instrument. The second instrument was an interview guide. This study described that there were several techniques of teaching listening used by the teacher learning process; information transfer, paraphrasing and translating, answering questions, summarizing, and fill in the blanks. The teacher applied these teaching techniques to make the students easier in understanding the material given by the teacher. By the implementation of various teaching listening techniques, students were more enthusiastic to learn at a deeper level. The variations of teaching techniques used in listening are expected to omit students’ boredom. In addition, students are more motivated to join the teaching-learning process. Therefore, the teacher has to be able to choose the most appropriate teaching techniques to rise the students’ participation in the class.
