- The drop out rate is high among migrant students because of one of the difficulties of adaptation. A total of 38,317 of 844,675 or 4.5% of numbers dropped out. From the literature study, many of these causes are due to the absence of the organization as a medium to make it easier for new students. Malang as one of the cities of education originating from various regions, one of which is southern Sumatra, has one regional organization called Jong. Researchers assume that this kind of organization has a role in helping the adaptation of new students so that things that are not desirable can be avoided because new students are immigrants or nomads. Research seeks to uncover factors that influence the adaptation of new students in Malang, the form of adaptation and Jong's role in phenomenological adaptation of new students. The data obtained by researchers used the strategy of in-depth interviews with 2 Jong administrators and 6 new students from campuses in Malang with a purposive sampling method. The results of the study found that there were three factors that influenced new students in Malang to adapt, namely: feeling "alone" as a nomad. Foreign environment, and everyday language differences. The form of adaptation of new students in Malang is to establish as many friendships as possible to make Jong as a place to treat homesickness. Jong's role in helping adaptation of new students includes three things, namely; facilitate new students with organizational activities, form a social network of migrants from southern Sumatra and provide assistance to students who experience adaptation problems. Theoretically, the adaptation of new students in Malang by joining Jong is a form of conformity adaptation.
