  • Sumber Sira is one of the springs used by the community for consumption, tourism and rice irrigation. Excessive community activities such as the use of pesticides in rice fields that are directly discharged into river bodies and other activities that can reduce the quality of water in Sumber Sira. Phytoplankton are members of plant-like plankton. Phytoplankton can be used as an indicator of determining the quality of waters because of the high sensitivity to environmental changes. This study aims to determine the quality of water in Sumber Sira Gondanglegi District Malang Regency so that it can be used as a source of learning biology. The research variables were chlorophyll water levels measured using UV-VIS 1800 spectrophotometry and found phytoplankton. Sampling was carried out at 4 different stations with 3 repetitions. Sumber Sira's water quality is based on chlorophyll content, including oligotrophic in the range of 0.58-1.40 and included in natural waters, while based on phytoplankton saprobitas index, including mesa/ oligosaprobit with a range of 0.8-1.25 and included in low pollution waters. The relationship between chlorophyll levels and phytoplankton saprobitas index has a strong relationship with the direction of the negative correlation with the Pearson correlation number -0.816. Other supporting parameters measured are acidity (pH), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), salinity, temperature and brightness. The results of this study are used as a study resource of Biology class X high school learning with environmental change material.
