  • Gouramy including freshwater fish with the highest demand in Indonesia. Besides that, there are also obstacles in the cultivation of gouramy namely slow growth resulting in higher feed used. The alternative is to use additional papain enzymes from papaya fruit where the papain enzyme is thought to break down protein in the feed so that it is easily digested by fish. The study was conducted on May 20, 2019 - June 1, 2019, in the Laboratory of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of the papain enzyme papaya (Carica papaya L.) with different doses to determine the optimal dose in fish feed. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 3 treatments and 1 control with the Experimental Method. The treatment given is giving papain enzyme with different doses for each treatment, namely treatment P1 (0 ml / 100 grams of feed), P2 treatment (2.5 ml / 100 grams of feed), P3 treatment (5 ml / 100 gram of feed), P4 treatment (7.5 ml / 100 gram of feed). The fish used are the seeds of gourami fish (Osphronemus gourami Lac.) Originating from Tulungagung measuring 7-8 cm, stocking densities of 20 fish each with a size of 40 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm and the volume of water ranging from 20 liters. The parameters observed were the efficiency of feed utilization and feed conversion ratio in gourami (Osphronemus gourami Lac.) Seeds. The results showed that the administration of papain enzymes from papaya sap in diets with different doses gave a significant effect (P <0.05) on feed efficiency (EPP), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on the amount of feed consumption (JKP) and consumption rate (FR). Giving papain enzyme dosage from papaya sap (5 ml / 100 gr of feed) resulted in an efficiency value of feeding of 86.89%, feed conversion ratio of 1.16 gr, amount of feed consumption of 60.53 gr and consumption rate of 2.04 gr / day. It can be concluded that the administration of papain enzyme dosage from papaya latex (5 ml / 100 g of feed) gives the best effect on feed conversion ratio (fcr) and feed utilization efficiency (epp). Supporting parameters such as water quality during maintenance are still within the optimum limits for cultivation. Research suggestions can be continued by increasing the dose of papain enzyme administration to determine the optimum dose of gouramy seeds for papain enzymes using different fish species.
