- This study aimed to describe students’ written mathematical communication abilities at SMP Laboratorium UM Blitar. The study was conducted on class VIII amounting to 11 peoples, then 6 student would be selected based on the written test result to described. The type of this study was a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, because it can describe the study activities carried out on certain objects clearly and systematically. Data collection techniques consisted of test and interview. The written test was used to determine the level of students' mathematical written communication abilities while interview was used to strengthen the data obtained from the test results. Test results were analyzed based on the indicators, then categorized into 3 categories namely high, medium and low categories. The analysis results would be described according to the students’ written mathematical communication abilities. The results showed that there were 2 categories of written mathematical communication abilities at SMP Laboratorium UM Blitar, namely high category and medium category. Based on the students chosen to be described in this study, there were 4 students, namely 2 students with high category and 2 students with medium category. There was no student with low category in this study.
