  • The test method as a learning outcome requires preparation stages. Teachers must identify the purpose of the test as the learning outcomes. Preparation stages of the test cannot encompass the whole learning outcomes which were obtained by students, such as applying the suitability of the indicators of questions and questions made. Moreover, the questions used in an evaluation test at the semester examination frequently have not been analyzed. Therefore, the quality of the questions has not yet been determined. The purpose of the research was to determine the quality of high school biology subject exercises in the first semester of XI class in the academic year 2018/2019 by using the analysis of exercises' cognitive levels. This research was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Batu. Type of the research was descriptive research by employing a qualitative approach. The exercises analyzed was the final semester examination at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Batu. The researcher analyzes the distribution of cognitive levels by identifying the cognitive domain. The results of the distribution of cognitive levels from the analysis of the exercises contained only cognitive domains C1, C2, and C3. Most of the exercises still use the LOT cognitive domain (lower-order thinking).
