  • Lathe is a machine tool used to cut objects that are rotated. By turning the workpiece then subject it to the tool which is moved translatively parallel to the rotary axis of the workpiece. The purpose of this study was to determine the Effect of Coolant Variations on Surface Roughness and Temperature in ST 37 Low Carbon Steel Turning. From the results of the surface roughness study there was an average (Ra) of fresh water 29 °C = 4,650 μm, SAE oil 10w-40 = 3,465 μm, and dromus oil 808 = 3,414 μm, resulting in a comparison of surface roughness values from viscosity, this proves oil dromus 808 gets the lowest value and is a good lubricating media. Then from the surface temperature results there is an average water temperature of 29 °C = 30.495 °C, SAE oil 10w-40 = 36,216 °C, and oil dromus 808 = 39,658 °C, this proves that 29 °C fresh water makes it effective as cooling, due to temperature the lowest freshwater 29 °C.
