  • Background: Accumulation of lead exposure in the body can cause liver injury. Liver injury marked by increased SGOT and SGPT serum. Liver Injury can prevented by antioxidant. Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L) contain antioxidant such as flavonoids, vitamin C , terpenes, tannins and lignans which expected can attenuate hepatocellular injury by inhibiting oxidative stress due to the accumulation of free radicals caused by lead acetat. Objective: To determine the effect of meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri L) on lowering SGOT and SGPT levels of male white rat induced by lead acetat. Method: True Experiment with post test only control group design. 16 rats as a sample were divided into 4 groups, the positive control group (induced by lead acetat ) 3 treatment groups (induced by lead acetat, and meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri L) 20, 40, and 80 [mg / 200 grWB / day]). SGOT and SGPT levels are measured by spectrophotometer with wavelength of 340 nm. The data were analyzed using test One Way Anova , Post Hoc Bonferroni test and Regression test. Results and Discussion: One Way Anova test results showed that the difference of SGOT and SGPT levels of rats are significant (p=0.001) and (p=0.004) among groups. Post hoc test results obtained a dose of 80 mg/200 grWB/ day has begun to show a significant decrease of SGOT and SGPT levels . The result of regression test significant (p=0.000) show there was a relationship between the dose of meniran extract with SGOT and SGPT levels on blood serum of white male rats (Rattus norvegicus) strain wistar. This is happen because the content of antioxidant compounds is flavonoids, vitamin C , terpenes, tannins and lignans in Meniran (Phyllanthus niruri L). Conclusion: Meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri L) has effect lowering SGOT and SGPT levels on blood serum of white male rats (Rattus norvegicus) strain wistar induced by lead acetat.
