- The study aims to determine the effect of SMAW current variations (Shielding Metal Arc Welding) distortion, hardness and tensile strength of the joint Stainless Steel 304 carbon steel A 36 with Electrode E308-16. Current variations used are 60 amper, 70 amper and 80 amper, After the welding process, proceed to prepare the 3 welded matrial using 3 different current variations to determine the level of distortion, next make 9 specimens for tensile testing with of UH 30A SHIMADZU, 3 specimens for hardness testing, after which the distortion test, were carried out. The results showed that after the welding process in the distortion testing of Stainless Steel 304 specimens had lower distortion compared to the low carbon steel A 36. the tensile strength of the welding results with the welding treatment at all current variations is greater than the raw stainless steel 304 and lower than the raw matrial A 36 steel. Optimal tensile strength values in the specimens with welding treatment are at 60 ampere is 285,646 MPa. Each additional current aims to increase the value of hardness, the highest hardness in Weld Metal is in the current 80 A. A 36 steel specimen with a value of 552,359 kg / mm2. The highest hardness in the Weld Metal area is at a current of 70 A in 304 Stainless Steel specimen with a value of 519,801 kg / mm2. The highest hardness in the HAZ area was in the variation of 80 A 304 Stainless Steel specimen with a value of 505.155 kg / mm2. 60 Amper welding current variations is the best variations for welding.
