- An analysis of language errors is an activity of academic investigation of the deviations in the rules of language. Language errors do not only occur orally, but also written. Official letter is a main of written communication that is commonly mandatory in formal environment such as government, private, and corporate offices. The writings of these official letters are supposed to be applying the standard language and in accordance with grammar rules in Bahasa Indonesia, yet there are instances of official letters that were written not in a good, standard way, therefore, they deviate from the language norms. The official letter of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership in Gresik Regency is one of the letters with language errors. The focus of this study are: (1) errors in spelling and punctuation marks on the Regional Leadership Office of Muhammadiyah Gresik Regency official letter, (2) errors on word-writing on the official letters of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership Office in Gresik Regency, and (3) effective sentence errors in the Regional Leadership official letter Muhammadiyah Gresik Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach and descriptive method. The data in this study are in the form of a collection of official letters from the Regional Leadership Council of Muhammadiyah in Gresik Regency, specifically from January to March 2019, with a total of 30 letters. The analysis of language errors in the official letter of the Regional Office of Muhammadiyah Gresik Regency was conducted in several stages, there are: (1) collecting error samples, (2) identifying errors, (3) grouping errors, (4) describing errors, and (5) evaluating and concluding error. The results of the present study’s analysis and discussion showed that in the official letter of the Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah Gresik Regency, language errors occurred in the pattern of: (1) spelling and punctuation errors, including capital letters, italics, placing of dots, commas, writing dashes italics, hyphen writing, and dashing, (2) errors in words, including mistakenly taking use of basic words, writing word formations, and writing prepositions, (3) errors in effective sentences, including logic, efficiency, and accuracy.
