- Assertive speech acts are speech acts which prioritize to the truth that are conveyed by the speaker and are function to deliver a matter to the opponent. Without the role of assertive speech acts, a person's life will not go along in a good way. An assertive speech act that was carried out in a presidential candidate debate became the media used to see the assertive speech acts. Based on that, this study focuses on (1) the form of the assertive speech acts in the Indonesian presidential and vice presidential candidate debates for the 2019-2024 period, (2) the function of assertive speech acts in the Indonesian presidential and vice presidential candidate debates for the 2019-2024 period, and (3) the meaning of assertive speech acts in the Indonesian presidential and vice presidential candidate debates for the 2019-2024 period. The method applied in this study is qualitative with pragmatic approach. The study data used is the transcript of the record that illustrates the form of the assertive speech acts appeared and used in the presidential candidate debates. The data that are found were processed through several steps, there are: (1) data collection, (2) transcript writing, (3) data identification, (4) data mark outs, and (5) conclusion. The study results were obtained based on data analysis are; (1) the type of news sentences that are intended to convey the vision, mission, and policies to be pursued by each pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates, (2) the type of question sentences intended to ask questions about the problems that were arise in the debates submitted by the presidential and vice presidential candidates, and (3) the type of imperative sentence is intended to inform public policy. Furthermore, the assertive speech acts function that was acquired in this study are; (1) the specified function of expressing the vision and mission in the form of the candidate’s second statement in the Presidential election debate, (2) the function of asking one of the candidates for development prospects and future state policies, and (3) the governing function found in this study is an order for the future government to perform well and to advance the State. The next point is the meaning of assertive speech acts contained in the debate, which are; (1) stating, of the vision and mission of the election as president, (2) informing, in asking for strategies to overcome discrimination and persecution, (3) suggesting, the requirement must be conducted in a transparent manner to procure a system, (4) boasting, in understanding the nation’s problem and tenure must never be abused, (5) complaining, it is not allowed to complain to the village headmen who supports candidate two, (6) demanding, to individuals who still commit corruption to be dealt with as loudly as possible, (7) reporting, to the legal mechanisms which are not appropriate in Indonesia, (8) admitting, the persons with disabilities are equal to the accomplishment, (9) showing, that there are facts or evidence that a person with a disability can create jobs and four years of development output that can complete several developments, (10) bragging, in terms of experience (Prabowo) and when officiate, there is no conflict in freeing the lane (Jokowi) and (11) mention, in terms of desires (Prabowo Sandi) and show pareng which has been built.
