- Illocutionary Act is a performance of informing, ordering, warning, undertaking, or utterances which have a certain force. With Illocutionary act, the speaker is not only performing an utterance but is also doing something. Illocutionary act shows the broader field of Language that functions as the tool to communicate and holds meanings from the person who delivered it. This study aimed to find out the kinds of Directive Illocutionary Act and the most dominant kind of Directive Illocutionary Act used by Jacob Magellan Portman in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Novel. This study used Descriptive Qualitative research. The researcher used Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children novel script as the object to collect the data of Directive Illocutionary Act in the dialogue of the main character: Jacob Magellan Portman. The data collected were analyzed by using Searle’s and Huang’s theory of Directive Illocutionary Act. The finding showed that Jacob Magellan Portman used four kinds of Directive Illocutionary Acts in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children novel. They were: Command, Request, Question, and Advice. Furthermore, the most dominant kind of Directive Illocutionary Act used by Jacob Magellan Portman was Commanding utterances.
