  • In this reseach aims to find out the tensile strength of ST 40 Steel by using a tensile test method and provide variations that combine variations of the weld joint V groove and welding currents using spiral welding techniques. Then the specimen was formed accordance with ASTM-09 standard. The total number of specimens was 18 pieces with repetition 3 times in each combination of variations Two variations used are the difference between the weld seam (60o and 70o) and the difference in welding current (90 A, 100 A and 110 A). From the analysis of the graph of the influence of weld joint V groove and current variations using this spiral welding technique, the results of the study show that the effect of the variations has decreased but not too significant, this is because the higher the current used, the lower the tensile stress. This is due if the input current that given greater than another than heat input that given to the specimen will be greater and the thickness of the specimen also affects the tensile strength this can be said because in some previous analysis states that the thickness of the plate also affects. The highest average tensile strength is found in variations of 90 Amperes Current and weld join V groove 70o, which is 0.416780 kN / mm2. And the lowest tensile strength is in the variation of 110 Amperes current with weld join V groove 70 °.
